FTP setup

What is FTP?
FTP is "File Transfer Protocol". It is used to send and receive files across the internet. You use it to upload, download, and delete files in your account, and also manipulate files by renaming them or changing file permissions.

How can I perform file administration?
You can either download FTP Client software, or use the File Control Panel in our Control Panel section. In general, FTP software is usually faster and more reliable, and is the recommended method of uploading and downloading files.

Downloading FTP Client software

To transfer files to and from your server, you need a FTP Client. If your website development software already includes a FTP client you do not need additional software. The following is a list of places to get ftp clients:
  • SmartFTP: Free, well supported and constantly updated by SmartFTP Corp **Recommended**
  • WS FTP: Free, popular and solid
  • Tucows FTP clients: Large list of FTP client software

FTP Client Settings

All FTP compliant software will work with our FTP servers. The information below will help you set up most FTP clients.
Remember to replace "yourdomaincom" with your ftp account (eg. phonecom) and "yourdomain.com" with your domain (eg. phone.com). Note that the ftp account is your domain without any dots:
