Our main Web servers run the Linux operating system. Our preferred Linux distributions are Debian Linux and Redhat Linux. By running Linux, we can achieve maximum server security, stability and performance, and most software can be upgraded and installed with no interruption of service.

Each Web server's performance and availability is monitored 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Unexpected activity generates an alarm which will alert an on-call system administrator to investigate. Our servers utilize the latest in fast and reliable hardware, including 3ware Storage Switches ("3ware's StorSwitch architecture is implemented with an 800 MB/sec switch fabric that allows parallel accesses to all drives simultaneously, yielding lower latency and increased data transfer rates for optimal application performance.") and Maxtor/IBM hard disks, while each server has redundant parts ready to be swapped in at any time. Each server also has at least 1GB of RAM for maximum speed and response.

Software on the Web servers is updated regularly to keep on top of all bug fixes and security patches, and to offer new functions and features. We maintain a policy of allowing our clients a great degree of flexibility; however, activities which degrade and compromise service for others (eg. email bombing, Denial Of Service attacks) are dealt with quickly and swiftly to minimize disruption to others.

All Web servers utilize high speed 3ware Storage Switches with RAID 5 configurations and Hotspare drives for maximum data integrity, and network-wide backups are performed daily. Combined together these provide maximum safety, reliability, scalability, and performance.

Each Web server is connected by dual 100Mb/s ethernet cards and Cat-5 cabling to network switches. Internet connectivity layout maps can be viewed in our Network section, and spare bandwidth on all points of our network mean we can handle any sudden spike or surge in traffic gracefully, and we can allocate additional bandwidth quickly should the need arise.
